Nasty Baby!!! But chicken is by far the nastiest critter I've seen. they will eat anything. I got a friend, and this is the truth, He would feed his cow corn and the cow would crap it out, then his hogs would eat the corn out of the cow pattys, then the hogs would poop it out and the chickens would eat the cracked corn out of the hog turds. NO LIE!! I know a member here who knows this guy, or knows of him. But I'd rather eat a chicken than a Yote anyday.

In the Journals of Lewis and Clark, Lewis stated that he enjoyed the taste of dog meat, whereas Clark, not so much.  I am curious as to what type of dog meat they were eating.  But when you are in the Rockies in the middle of winter, starving, I am sure the rear end of a skunk probably tastes like Filet Minon.

Ever have Civet cat coffee?  Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern showed this.  In Vietnam, they go into the forest and pick the coffee beans out of the Civet cat's scat.  Apparently, the beans will not digest in their stomach.  They then grind the beans and make coffee.  They (whoever the hell THEY are) say it is great.  I have seen it for sale and it is very expensive.  Let me know how it tastes.   :bigsmyl:

Last year I shot a desert mountain lion in Arizona. Was real skeptical about eating a "cat"/carnevoire. The hams turned out to be some of the best tablefare I ever ate! I guess I'd try some coyote... pass the tabasco please.

Rabies virus is concentrated primarily in the saliva, brain, and spinal cord. Heat from thorough cooking will kill rabies virus, making properly cooked meat from game animals safe. When preparing meat for cooking, wearing rubber gloves and cleaning up with soap and water is recommended.

Survival Rule: The flesh of all birds, mammals, and reptiles is safe to eat. Edible but not necessarily palatable. (This includes Yotes)

Bone out the hams and shoulders, cut meat into 1"-2" chunks. Cut backstraps into chunks. Throw meat into crockpot. add salt, pepper, garlic, and a chopped onion. Cover mixture with beer. Cook on Hi for    :biglaugh:   6-8hrs or until meat shreds apart. Add your favorite bbq sauce, serve on buns. (You've got BBQ Yotewiches).

Or follow above recipe but leave out bbq sauce, instead add 4-5 chopped onions, more beer if needed. When meat shreds thicken with cornstarch and serve over rice. Yote with onion gravy over rice, sounds yummy!!!!!!! (everythings better with gravy!)

If you enjoy these culinary creations I've got a fantastic Thanksgiving presentation based on a beautiful buttery buzzard breast!

You just gotta get past the smell!!!!!

Humbled,

Here's another suggestion, look up a chinese curry chicken recipe and substitute coyote for chicken.

Curried coyote, sounds good to me!

Come on guys, the way a critter smells when cleaning doesn't represent how well it is for cooking.
Mahi is repulsive eaten raw, but very few people will refuse it when cooked.

I personally would not eat one. (I do love catfish...and it's a valid point.)

However, umm...how do I put this delicately....

Ask some hispanic friends.  I worked around commercial construction this summer and often talked about hunting with "the guys".  It came up in conversation that the Mexican immigrants would BUY coyote.  Figured he was giving me the new-guy treatment and I called his bluff.  I was wrong.  Not many of them will, but some of them will eat coyote.  How in the world they prepare it I wouldn't know.

I'd go at least as far as what grandpa did with raccoons. I know that sounds gross but they're actually pretty clean animals.  Don't think I'd eat a "city" raccoon though.  He'd soak in brine. Then soak them in fresh water.  Pressure cook in "new" fresh water, then fry or grill em.

All I'm saying is that I bet there is a way to make it safe and somewhat palatable.  I'm also saying I won't eat any until I have to.  (That's coming from a guy how LIKES raccoon/turtle/catfish and thinks pigeon is edible.  (NOT the city pigeons...the big fat cornfed pigeons that raid our grain bins.)

in response to the above post, i think you should clarify. you cannot eat the flesh of brightly colored birds in australia. nor can you eat polar bear liver, although i guess that's not considered "flesh" by everyone. sorry, i just don't wanna see peole die for lack of correct info.

They were having a Thanksgiving potluck where I used to work. They had a sign-up list and I put down my name and that I was bringing "Coyote Meat". It was awesome. Everyone there poked at every meat dish, sniffed it, and asked, "Do you know who brought this? It wasn't you-know-who was it?? I mean, I don't KNOW what coyote meat even LOOKS like!"

Another time there, someone was complaining about a "lunchroom thief" on the night shift stealing sandwiches from the fridge. I packed a potted meat sandwich with a nice, fat Habanero inside and left it in the fridge overnight. It was gone the next day. Well, some of it was in the trash can, eaten to where the Habanero was with the pepper gone out of it. That put a stop to that. Didn't have to resort to Ex-Lax chocolate cordials (which was Phase 2) to stop the theif.
