Removing fletching glue residue

I'm in the process of re-fletching some gold tip traditional shafts and I need some advice on removing the glue residue. Can anyone recommend something that will take off the residue and that won't damage the shafts? Thanks in advance.

I always just use and exacto knife. just be careful not to cut into the shaft. I then just wipe the excess with acetone.
