Converting smoker into cold smoker?
« on: January 31, 2011, 06:18:00 PM »
So I am thinking of rigging my electric smoker (which is a box type from Cabelas that holds temps. and allows you to set the timer) into a cold smoker.  Tell me if you think this will work and any improvements would be appreciated.

Where the exaust or smoke bellows from the 3" vent hole in the top of the smoker, I was thinking of attaching a 20'(?) piece of drier vent into a home made smoke box where I could put the meat etc.  I would think that would be more than enough length to cool the smoke down.  I don't do much in the way of cold smoking but this seems like it would be pretty simple???

I think you'd be better putting the smoke in down low and letting it rise past your meat.  The thing about cold smoking is it's a "dry heat" and to get that you need good ventilation and slow cool "lazy" smoke.
