How heavy of an arrow for a 50lb recurve and a hog?

I am going to be going after some hogs fairly soon and may need to up my arrow weight. I am currently shooting a 2016 with a weight of almost 500 gr using a 125 gr 2 blade magnus.

My bow is a Martin Recurve 50@28" and I pull 27.5".

The hogs I hunt will be less than 200lbs so with a good broadside shot will I be fine or should I up the head weight and switch to a 2018 shaft?

I would stay on the safe side and go up in waigth( pigs are tougth buggers)

probably 500gr would do,...but I never carry anything under the low to mid 600s,

my favotite set up is 70# with 880gr arrows.

I know you can go up in weigth, because my girlfriend shoots 450gr out of her 35# MAMBA.

IT's a great bow, and surely would shoot an heavyer arrow with plenty speed to spare !!!!!

As heavy as your bow will tune with. Behind the big bears hogs are probly the most dangerous game in N. America. And one of the toughest. And did I mention one of the funnest...

I like to shoot 10-12 grains per pound and with my 46# - 47# recurves I have no problem killing hogs.  Use a well-constructed BH and hit them in the sweet spot and they go down quick!

I've used carbons that I weighted to 520 grains with razor sharp woodsmans with excellant results. For me it seems the carbons out penetrate and will let you get away with a lighter shaft if you have to.

Unless you get into some BIG boars (200+)with heavy shields, your set-up should be fine. Sows and shoats aren't tough to penetrate but you will need to hit them in the right spots (like anything else)or you'll have a tough tracking job.
