The only things I know of are the "Grizzly Stiks" sold by Alaskan Bowhunting Supply.

The name ... "Dune," right? One of my favorite characters.

May I ask what spine and total arrow weight you are trying to achieve?

I just returned Friday from a buffalo hunt in Australia. I used Ipe shafts from Allegheny Arrow Woods. At 29 inches and with a 160-grain Grizzly head, they weighed 860 grains. Penetration was great on two buffalo, both shot right through the heart with my 75-pound Howard Hill Wesley Special. The largest bull took the broadhead horizontally through a rib, and the broadhead was stuck in the rib on the far side. The other bull was laying down when I shot him, and the arrow went through the sternum, up through heart and lungs and the broadhead lodged in his spine

I was quite pleased with the Ipe shafts, they were straight and man did they pack a wallop!

I used shafts made by Bob Burton, of whispering wind, to take two Water Buffalo and one Cape Buffalo.  All were one shot kills.

Bob made the shafts for me and I finished the arrows.  I draw 26".  The arrows weighed 960 grains all-up, which included the Magnus II head.

On the Cape Buffalo, the arrow SEVERED a rib going in and SEVERED a rib on the off side.  He was down in 8 seconds!

I ordered six dozen more shafts after the first Buffalo!  They fly flawlessly out of my Morrison recurve...74 pounds at 26".

You might want to try taking larger shafts and laminating smaller one inside , I suggest a silicone based sealant as it also cushions and provides flexibility while giving the spine weight needed for heavy bows delivering more kinetic energy to the game .

Duncan and Pucci,

My article about the hunt is coming out on newsstands this week (first week of July) in the Bowhunter Magazine 2007 Big Game Special. If you want to see some great photos of an amazing hunt, check it out.

They did mess up one thing with the photos, they mislabled the stalk of my first bull, making it seem like it was the stalk of my second bull. Other than that though, they did it up right, especially the two-page custom artwork.

I hadn't read the article since I first sent it to Bowhunter. Re-reading it in the advance copy they sent me last week gave me a strong case of "I-HAVE-to-get-back-to-Australia-soon" fever. Man, they have some serious hunting down there!
