2 blade Magnus on Bear?
« on: March 20, 2008, 10:35:00 PM »
I would rather shoot the WW but I can't get them to fly well.  I otherwise shoot 2 Blade Magnus and have done well on deer and moose. What opinions do you have on using a fixed 2 balde head?

Mate, I've taken some nice, big animals with that broadhead, as you have, too! So, worry not about the broadhead! However, if you can't get the WW to fly well, that indicates an arrow spine problem, because no matter what broadhead you use, it should fly well if the arrow is tuned (and the broadhead is mounted true). Good luck!

My only bear went 15 yards after being hit with a Magnus 2 blade. He weighed 450 pounds.

To bring this full circle, I went to Alberta in May and at the very last minute of the last day a small bear came in to the bait and at about 8 yards I got a full pass thru with a WW 3 blade. He died with the usual death growl at less than 50 yards on the far side of a shallow pond.  I never had the nerve to try the 2 blade but with a chest shot I have to reason to think that it wouldn't work fine.

3 or 4 blades for bear! You need a hole for a bloodtrail and bears arenot tough at all as far as penetration.
Unless you're like Centaur and can get 'em down within 15 yards or so

any pos broadhead will work for bbears as long as it is sharp and in the lungs and you wont have to wory about blood.

I like three blade for that blood trail. Bears can close up quick. Of course Tippit shot one with a selfbow and a stonepoint and what did it go, ten yards? I do love the WW's though and am using them on da pigs in a couple of weeks! I shot a bear that was all charged up with a WW and he went maybe 15 yards, tops!

£0 yards or less with my Magnus on a 185# blond boar. But if the WW.does 'nt fly well means you have spine problems

Concur with above, I recommend you bare shaft and get things lined up. The WW is an easy head to tune, and if it is not flying correctly, a 125 grain 2 blade won't either. Having said that, I have shot 1 bear, and adult boar 5-6 years old, and it was with a Magnus II. The bear went 40 yards before piling up.
