1010gr arrow for buff with 69# @ 28"?????

not that i'll be hunting buff anytime soon. i've got one arrow made up for my bob lee recurve.
g/tip big game 100+, 1010gr @ 28% EFOC. 2 blade b/head. 69# @ my 28" draw. noticeably slower than my normal 780gr setup for the same bow.

good for buff or what?

Sounds like it. I shot my Water buffalo with 880 grains EFOC and app. 170 fps out of my 65#29" DAS with Samick Extreme limbs. Got penetration to the feathers - almost. I used a Grizzly El Grande grinded like Ashby recommends.

would consider a tougher shaft or footing the goldtip some how, do you have a bit of brass weights behind the tip.

I shot the buff in the picture to the left with a CE 350, brass weights up front, STOS b.h. and a weight tube.  Total 925 grains.  77 lb. Horne Ridge Runner.  Arrow went through both sets of ribs and out the other side about 15 inches.  Second shot was in the backside of the retreating buff and the arrow completely disappeared into the animal.  I had a buddy sharpen the STOS's to "scary sharp" which I just can't seem to do.  Never crono'd the speed but they flew like darts.

Ozy, how do they fly? I have the sam shaft, actually they sent me a few to try, before they were even on the market and cut to 30.5 out of a 73# recurve I can't get them above 790 grains without them being underspined.

yeah flight is not quite as good as my normal 780gr arrows. thats funny you say that you can't get the weight up without being weak.
it was more of a 'see if i can get this arrow to fly' experiment. and to do that out of my bow i had to leave at full length (32 1/2") and keep putting weight up front till it wasn't stiff.

Picked up some of alaskan bowhuntings 300 parallels (.275 deflection))(680 gr) for 80+# bows real cheap, trying to make them work with a 65# bow. So far Ive had about 370 gr up front and still a good bit stiff going to try the steel rod behind the insert. Buffalo hunt still 2 years away...still paying off ex wife #2. .......May have to just find/order a heavier bow before then since I already have the arrows.

Bows are the easy part, all you need is a credit card number! Arrows are the HARD part, you can't buy em, you'll have to make em! I wouldn't use a 65# bow on a water buffalo anyway.

Rick I saw a post elsewhere awhile back made by Denny Sturgis describing his water buff arrow. He used a Beman MFX but what was interesting to me was that he had a 6 or 7 inch piece of metal rod screwed into the back of the insert for weight. According to him as related by Ken Beck, any weight that is behind the contact point on the shelf at full draw does not weaken dynamic spine. I found that interesting even though I have had no need for a set up like that so far. Maybe Denny will see this thread and describe his set up.

David, I don't believe Ken is correct on that, I have found that any weight in the FRONT half of the shaft weakens the dynamic spine, but the closer you get to centerpoint the less the effect. For instance you can add weedeater line or even the weight tubes, where almost all of the weight is behind the shelf, yet they still weaken the dynamic spine.

Seems a few years ago Black Widow carried a nock weighting system for GTs that added both weight and stiffened spine....Not sure if they still carry them. I may have a dozen lying around somewhere....
