Old backed bow
« on: May 25, 2003, 12:07:00 PM »
I just aquired an old backed bow (semi-finished)that leaves me confused as to the limb design.
It is an osage, 68" long, saw out to a normal shape. The limb is 1 1/2" wide, 7/16" thick. It has a flat back and a radiused belly. The nock ends are 1/2" wide,but....... 5/8" thick! This means the limb tapers normally from side to side toward the nock. But the thickness increases toward the nock the last 5". The backing is 1/8" thick and a very dark (black?) fiberous wood.
