Question about a bear Kodiak that sold on ebay

I posted this in powwow but thought I would here too... Any info is apreciated... I'm just curious why this bow brought this much...

Ok I was watching another bow this seller had. She lives up the road from me and has this one that just sold

I was watching a polar I wanted but I missed it due to a internet connection.  

Anyway my question is why is this one so high. I mean 1500+ seems a bit extreme.

Under a little bit of tape residue lives a very pristine and rare Kodiak. It is a very early 1959, Maple sight window. You can tell it is early in production because Fred started the coin that year but his bows where ready before the coins were Consequently very early 59's had no coin. Look past the dirt. The leather grip is good to excellent, the original  arrow plate and feather rest are there, the quiver mount is not all wallowed out as is common. The limb tips have the four laminations, and all though the 59 had a bad habit of breaking limb tips, these are solid

Very cool. I wonder if I could get a look at it before it gets shipped. Probably not but I guess it couldn't hurt to ask.

Another reason that the bow brought such a high price is the fact that it has a maple sight window,another rare feature on a 1959 Kodiak.

You guys are right on. I contacted the seller. She said the buyer has contacted her and said it was because of exactly what you guys said.

She also said she had bought them in a farm auction. And had no clue about them. I'd say she got real lucky.

People that know nothing about old recurves often pick one up at a garage sale and are amazed at what they bring on eBAY.  Just luck of the draw on what they found.  

Another factor is that in the beginning of the auction, some regular recurve collectors jumped in while it was low.  Toward the end, two guys fought it out, but at last minute, someone that wanted it really bad stepped up and put his money where his mouth is.  Is it worth what it went for?  Absolutely.  I always say an old bow is worth what someone will pay for it.  No more, no less.  If two guys both bid that high on it, it was worth it.  Will the guy ever get his money back if he sells it?  Probably not.  He may if the second high bidder on this one and one other are competing for it.

I just got an email from the seller and she told me how much she got them for. Scary cheap. I'm very happy for her she sems very nice.

Ebay fees were probably near what she had in the bow. Now thats cheap.
