serious newbie help!!!!!
« on: August 28, 2005, 06:51:00 PM »
hi gang,

i borrowed my dad's super kodiak last year to begin shooting after many years off.  it is a 70's bow - model/serial # KZ17736.  can anyone tell me about string length or brace height or anything?  maybe what arrows i should start with?  i was recommended a set of aluminum 2117 from an outdoor superstore and bought 12 for $80 then found out they may be too stiff.  can anyone help get me started on the correct foot?

thanks,

mike

Mike..we need to know the AMO length. Also the bow weight and how far you are actually drawing the bow.  Super K's for the most part were 60" AMO and the rule of thumb is usually 4 inches shorter than the AMO length for a string length. Therefore, the 60" AMO would take a 56" string.

Again we need to know the AMO, the draw length and how long your draw is?

Mike

A 1970's Super K will be an amo length of 60".  Just ask for a string for an AM) 60" in the draw weigh marked on the bow and you should be fine.  2117's ara a good standard arrow for about 50#, depending on your draw length.  I agreewith Bob that $80.00 is too high.  I use 2117 XX75.  I get them from Wall Mart for about half that much.  I usually wait until the season is over  and buy them when they go on sale.  A few years back Wal Mart cleared them out at $2.00 for a card of three.  That is $8.00/doz.  I bough everything they had and have a stockpile for the future.  I strip them and refletch them the way I like them.

Brace height on that bow should be about 8-1/2", then tune up or down from there.
