Bear Grizzly ... what can you tell me, please!
« on: August 11, 2006, 07:09:00 PM »
I picked a R/H Bear Grizzly at a garage sale.  On a scale of 1-10, I'd say it is a 8 (at least). The following is written on the bow: "Bear Glass-Powered GRIZZLEY.  Bear Archery, Grayling, Michigan. Serial No. GR05590 ... AMO-58", 45x#.    Can anyone identify what year this Bear Grizzly is, and it's approx. value (for home insurance replacement value).  From looking at past posts..it looks like the "K" serial numbers were in '75 or '76.

Oh, the bow is two-tone wood...greenish on the back side, and brown in the front.  It does have a insert in the front.

The Bear medallion is on the right side ... above the shelf.

Hey Dave this is Steve from the Baltimore shoot, we did the trail together as a group. Well all I can contribute is I missed out on the cleanest Bear Grizzly a few nights ago on E-Bay a Super clean Zebra wood riser @ 50# it went over two hundred but I should of kept going now that I think about it. I haven't shot any as of yet but plenty of TradGanger's have and there are plenty to say it's one of the best Bears!! Just go to Pow Wow and do a search on Bear Grizzly and plenty of threads will come up. That's all I did before I started bidding on it. I picked up a vintage Wing "Gull" the other day my first bow off of E-bay  Super clean for over forty years old wish I could say the same for me. And this thing is a nail driver!! Unbelievable!! Keep your eyes open there are lots of Grizzly's out there wait for a good one then shoot,..or buy. Good to hear you. Steve

Evening Steve!  It was nice to meet and shoot with ya at Baltimore.  Concerning the Grizzly, I tried to do the research before I posted, but I can't find a thing on the serial number (starting with "G").  Oh well, maybe someone will have an idea or two.  From what I can gather the market sets the price, and I could see $100, or more, but I don't really see a need or care about selling it, but... the serial number thing bugs me.  I like answers!!!! Ughhhhhhh!

Hello David,

the Grizzly pictured in the 1977 Bear catalog shows serial# GR05517, so your Grizz should have been built shortly after it.
The K-serials began in 1970 and were changed in 1977 to "GR" for GRizzly.

Well, that is some good info!!!!  I was thinking alphabetical order ..G before K.  So, I was figuring it was late 60s, or early 70s.  Well...errrr...opps...ssometimes, if it seems just to simple...it just may be!  LOL

Long, long afterward, in an oak I found the arrow, still unbroke;
And the song, from beginning to end, I found again in the heart of a friend.
