old Widow target bow
« on: August 17, 2006, 04:16:00 PM »
I just picked up a 1969 X-99 Widow target bow.  68", 35 lbs at 28.  Bow is in very good condition, glass has no checking, limbs straight. No holes in riser except for a stabilizer on the back below the grip. Riser has what looks like rosewood and some kind of yellow material in the riser.  Limbs are yellow belly and back.  It is #23870.  I talked with Black Widow, and they gave me what info they could.  I still have a few questions.
1.  What is the yellow material in the riser?
Band of material looks to be about 1 1/2" wide.  Don't think it is fiberglass.
2.  What is the normal brace height?
3.  How close to center cut were these risers made?
4.  I know a bow is worth what someone would pay for it, but what would the normal price for a bow like this - say to a collector?  Bow is again in very good condition.

be sure to go to blackwidow bows site and find the 'WidowWall'. You can discuss the bow with a group of Widow lovers that should be knowledgeable.

Irish,
In good condition the bow should be worth $250 to $300. I wouldn't sell it for less if it were mine.

$250-$300 as Terry R said. I have a 1967 X85 that I bought new in 67 when I was 20 yrs old so I've been kind of following them just out of curiosity. I'll never sell it because it's kind of special to me. I just hope the kids don't unload it for $15 at my estate sale :-)

Forgot the Brace height question.  Just went down to measure mine, which has a new replacement string, same length as the original.  The BH measures 9-1/2".  I know, sounds pretty high but I've always heard the Widows take a pretty high BH.  It shoots great w/ my 1967 vintage Swift 1816 aluminum arrows.
