Dating Bear T/D limbs, magnesium risers?
« on: May 17, 2007, 01:24:00 PM »
Can anyone help me out dating some of my Bear T/D limbs (all Grayling) and magnesium risers?  As general and specific info is welcome.  I've got a pretty wide variety on the limbs: red tips, white tips, factory camo white tips with green silk screening, serial numbers range from 4000s to 15000s, black glass on most but one #1 50# set with white glass and red silkscreening.  Riser serial numbers vary too, but one A riser has chrome latches and black plastic bears on the back on the latch.  Is it possible to get to a specific year with the above info?

First year lines all three lenght white tips on black glass and black tips on white glass. Next can about year three red tips on both hunting and target. About 74 some white limbs with white tips that where painted ( they are in some cases black glass that was rejected and painted white.Your camo with white tips are more then likely from 71 or 72. There also are some white with blue tips out there from the 73 or 74 years. That went on the c Vitor Custom viking. Hope this is some help.

The first limbs had gold lettering,  white tips, and a groove in the sides of the limb butt. Later version of the "B" mag riser had a web across the top of the riser  below the limb pocket, this was due to the early versions braking-probably using heavy limbs.

anywingcurve: do you want #1 limbs=56"
                          #2 limbs=58"
                          #3 limbs=60"??????

Thanks for the info, guys.  It's always fun to pick up a few more tidbits of info about these bows!  Do the chrome latches with the little plastic black bears on the A handle mean anything, or maybe they are just replacements of the originals? I had thought the plastic bears only were put on wood handles????
