Dang that's like asking what's better a recurve or a longbow.

It's worth what some one is willing to pay, and that can depend on the day, time of year, your feedback, your shipping charges, it's condition, weather you post good, mediocore, or no pictures, when the auction ends, what condition it's in.

you surely have a price you will not go below so just set a reserve and pray.

oh yeah welcome to Tradgang!

Do a search on closed auctions and you'll get an idea. Now is a good time; but almost too late if you are not using PayPal.
If not listing right now wait till after April 15 to get the best bucks.
Auctions vary..........my guess is 200.

That's a heck of a first post. Howdy yourself!

It's a 40 year old bow with no warrenty.

It's only REALLY worth $80-$100

(ditto what Killy said.....great way to introduce yourself   :( )

I have seen them on #$%bay going for $90 to $180 based on their condition. I have been thinking about getting a little 40-45 pounder since I shot one a month ago.

Just my 2 cents,
-Charlie

TonyW,

My post was based upon the "real world" worth of a 40 year old bow. It has no warrenty, and it can quite possibly delaminate at any time. Then again.....maybe it never will..... My point being,If you pay $100 for a 40 year old bow (regardless of the manufacturer) knowing full well that it could quite possibly "give up the ghost" and it breaks.....It hurts a whole lot less than if you payed $300 (and it doesn't pi$$ you off near as bad either)

Just because these bows bring high prices on that auction site does NOT mean they are worth that much. There are alot of people out there with more  dollars than "sense" (i.e. common) there are also alot of collectors who buy these bows at humungous prices with no intention of ever shooting them.

I bought my 1967 Kodiak Magnum from Joe Skipp who is a member and a sponsor here on TradGang back in 1999. Joe's exact words to me were....."I get $80 for them, that's all they are worth.People think because it says Bear on it that they have a goldmine, you're still buying a 30 year old bow,and it can break at any time." Well Tony,These bows are not getting any younger.....and they do not become worth more as they get older either.

These old bows were meant to be bent!!!!! but they are not woth $200-$300 either

There is an "in crowd" here?  I never noticed-that is why I hang out here.

As for the bow, it is worth what Jeff S. says.  It would probably go for 100+ on epay, but it wouldn't be worth 20 to me-I like longbows.

Welcome.

Ron P -
I just looked at your 1953 Bear cub on the trad collector's forum. Maybe JOCKO should look at those postings instead of Pow Wow. Since your tired old Bear may delam at any moment, and there are no guarantees, how about making an easy $20? $25? I mean, it just makes sense, the older it gets, the less it is worth.

Welcome aboard JOCKO. I think your bow is a 1966 model, not a '65. I base that on the serial number beginning with a 6. I'd be very surprised if your bow didn't bring a minimum of $150.00 on ebeigh if it is indeed in very good condition with no holes, minimal stress and no bad scratches or dings. The Gainesville pre 1970 Kodiak Mags usually command a little higher price than the 70s models. And yeah, they do become more valuable as they get older. The prices don't rise as fast as gasoline, but they do in fact increase over time.
If ya have pictures of the bow, I'd like to see them. Email to [email protected].

And indeed it's worth what someone is willing to pay.  I've seen the green ones go for $250.00 and the 66' is much purtier 8^).  I would think that 66' would bring at least $150.00 as well, if it is in great shape.  And...it would be worth that to me.

Incidentally, Jocko....I have a 60+ year old lemonwood longbow traveling North America, seeking adventures.  That bow was supposed to be broken many years ago but it's still going.  The only "old" bow I ever had break on me was a Browning Explorer I, and I figured someone had stored it in a very dry/warm area.

Here's an old 58'ish, Tri-State Jaguar that I'm presently shooting.  I wouldn't take $150.00 for it 8^).
