Lloyd Hovarter became involved in target archery in the 1930's and by the early 1940's he started bowhunting. At that time there were no bowhunting seasons in Indiana so he and some friends would make annual trips to Wisconsin to hunt whitetails. Sometime in the 1940's he opened a small archery business in the basement of his home making bows and arrows. The model names of his bows were the Royal, Fury, Windsor and Imperial.
