1963 Kodiak Mags

How many different versions of the K Mag were made in 1963?  How do you tell the different types apart?  Are any of the versions safe to shoot?

3 different types.Distance between the arrow shelf and the base of the upper limb ie the back sight rail.Type 1&2 were the not so safe-ish to shoot.Type 1 was recalled from dealers...Type 2 was kinda iff-ie and type 3 was kinda safe...Now with that said.After the fact..Bear Archery and most dealers realized the bows were fine...It was the dreded step thru stringing that broke more then 70% of the reurns that were broken.Once Bear tested them,there was no way it would break from back to belly or front to back.But from side to side.....snapped the glue line along the ibeam...I've shot all 3 models several hundred times and have never had any of the 3 break....but I always use a bow stringer !!!!!!!!! bowdoc

Thanks guys.  Mines a Type III, but I can't see any indication of the I-Beam.

Doc you are amazing.  The depth of your detailed knowledge regarding any question posed for any bow is incredible.  You should write a book (after you finish my two bows), it would be a bestseller I'm sure.

I did forget to mention all 3 types...came with 1-2 and 3 piece risers..Some ibeams some one piece and some two piece risers..If you look at the two piece.And 3 piece would be an ibeam model.The shelf and strike plate area was cut right on the glue line in some of the bows.Those were the step thru bombs...Nice pic Al thank you....bowdoc
