LITTLE BEAR
« on: May 21, 2008, 04:33:00 PM »
I just got in a 20# 48" Little Bear that I snagged on e8ay for  $94.00 including shipping.

I figured I paid a bit too much for it but I have a new neighbor that moved in with an 11 yr old son that is chomping at the bit to learn how to shoot.  since I did't have anything lower than my 30# Mohawk to get him sarted, I figured it was time to add a kid's bow to the collection.  I did not want to start him off with a solid glass cheapie model.

The discription was very vague and the pictures were crappy.

Anyways, I knew the bow came with a kids belt quiver and a few arrows, so I went with the auction fever and bid higher than I wanted to. I bid $90.00 and got it for $84.00 + shipping.

Well it came in today.  Talk about buying a "pig in a polk".  No scratches, no dents, no stress or hazing, no twisted limbs, good tips really good finish.  Except for the fact that it has a make shift rest and plate on it, it looks like factory fresh.  It is a K series ao it is a '70's model.  20# @ 24"  Should be perfect for a young'uns starter bow.

Looks like this time I lucked out and got a good "pig"

The quiver is the standard imitation leather kid's belt quiver, but in really good shape.  The arrows are 1 doz all cedar fletched with worn feathers, some with tips off, all shootable.  Fletchiong is good enough to start him off  at close range.  They are al lthe same cresting so I assume as close to being a matched set as you will get with wood kids arrows.

So, all in all I am very pleased and this is one time I don't think I paid too much.  What kind of price can you put on an 11 yr olds smile.

Can't wait 'til Friday morning when his dad is bringing him over.  He has no idea he is going home with a full setup.

Good deal and God Bless you Jack. That's a great thing to do. I'll have to admit that more times than not I've been pleasantly surprised by what I've received from thebay. Just luck I guess. Anyway, GOOD JOB! CKruse

Thanks Cameron.

But it's not like I gave him a Jet or Classic.

I may have misstated in the first post.  I am not giving him the bow.  He wil luse it until he is ready to graduate to my 30# Mohawk.  He wil luse that until he is ready to move up to a heavier weight.  I wil llet him shoot out ov my collection until he geets to a point that he has settled down to a final weight, then I will assist his dad in picking out the right one.

I like letting Newbies use some of my bows instead of investing ina  bow that iswrong for them.  They shoo mine a while and this gives thim time to make the right decision on their permanant bow.

I have several older pearsons like Colts, and such that I loan out.

My grandson grew up cutting his teeth on Staghorns;Collectible Bears, and such.  He is now shooting a 50# Pearson Mustang.  His next step is his other Grandfathers's 55# Sabo.  You don't see too many of those around.  HJe has no idea of the fine collectibles he has been shooting.  But he is my grandson.  One day he will inherit a JH JET.  Got to train him right before he gets his hands on it though.

Jack, I've done the same thing. I call them permanent loaners. Good system. CKruse

Accurate terminology.  I have four out right now.  Problem is that the people using them end up wanting to buy them, and I don't  want to sell.  I want to keep them to have loaners.

Now two of my loaners are also collectibles

I loaned T-Bug my X wifes 32# Howatt Monterey.  Beautiful bow and a sweet shooter.  Then I turned around and sent her a pristien '67 Black Widow X99.  GAWJOUS.  It was re finished by Droptine59.  Both of those are out right now but the Widow wil lbe returned in about two weeks.

I also have a Ben Pearson Signature Takedown out, and A Pearson Colt.

In my opinion, the Colt is the best  bow for a beginner if it is in the right weight.  62" long makes it a good stable shooter.

I don't intend to make  a profit off these guys, and I can't replace them for what I have in them.  You know how it is.  You bide your time and eventually you get luckey and snag a Colt for $30.00.  I got the Widow for $75.00 and did some horse trading with Droptine to get it trefinished.  Try replacing hte.  The Signature I could let go.  I have 4 of them.

I picked up a Little Bear off this site.  It has a nylon pin to shoot off from so the bow can be shot from the right or left side rather than a shelf to shoot off from.  Its in like new condtition although I would not have bought the bow if I knew it had the pin rather than a shooting shelf.  I asked for a RH kids bow and I guess that is what I got.  Should have asked a few more questions or asked for photos.

That was an early model little bear.  Pearson did the same thing with th early bronco's.

I looked at those but preferred to get more of a center shot model.

Well they came over this morning.  I not only got Justin shooting, I got his older sister. Haley, his dad, Steve, and his mom, Missy, all shooting.

They went home with 3 bows, a dozen arrows, and a portable targrt.  All loaners.

I hope to take them to the TBG Shoot on June 7.
I have planted the seed.  Now we just water and nurish it to see if it will grow.
