« on: October 14, 2008, 12:09:00 AM »
Here's one they are calling an Alaskan Hunter
 290267374731
Serial # seems to say '69 model
Why is this thing already $130 bucks with 6 days to go. Good condition?
It's only 40# - anyway...thoughts.
thanks
Russ

Don't buy it. It is worth no more than $100. My pet peeve with those bows is that they do not have reinforced limb tips. Other than that, they are pretty nice. They were made with random woods and glasss colors.

Russ,
I looked at that bow, and Jeff is right-I wouldn't pay that much unless it was a must have for some reason.  Keep looking, and I will keep my eye open for you also.

Was there a model called the "alaskan hunter"
???
Doesn't look like the other "Alaskan" recurves I have seen.
Yeah, don't worry, i'm not going for that one although I would like a 1969 bear "something" in a 62". I wish the Kodiak Hunter was made with a 62" that year.  Anyhoo... thanks for the replies.

I don't think there was an Alaskan Hunter...maybe thats something the seller added as the bow he has listed is just an Alaskan...You may ask him to send you a pic of the logo or upper silk screen where it would say Alaskan Hunter. But I'am pretty certin thats just an plain old 1969 Alaskan....bowdoc

By the serial number it might be a '69.  It looks more like a grizzly or a tigercat to me.  In '69 I think an Alaskan was more of a tournament bow with a more figured riser.

It could also be a pre '64 before Bear started with the first diget as the year, but I would not have a clue as to what modle it is.  Definitely a Bear but it could be one of those special models that Bear made for Sears or other chains.

In the catalogs, the Bear 1966 to 1967 Alaskans were large riser 66" target bows. The 1969 and 1970 alaskans were a sleeker 62" hunting style bow similar to the tigercat.
