protecting your collection?
« on: November 14, 2008, 04:17:00 PM »
I have been wondering for some time now what's the best way to keep my bows safe at home and make sure my insurance coverage is adequate. With some of the recent posts I've read lately about shady experts/appraisers and the fires in California causing loss of collectable treasures, I am  wondering what you guy's do about insuring and protecting your stuff.      greg

I've thought about the same thing. I plan on taking pictures of all the bows, showing make, model and serial numbers, putting a value on each bow, then transfering that on to a CD for safe keeping.
The other thing that bothers me is having them stolen from my home. I'd like to buy a fireproof gun safe, remodel the inside so the bows could be hung vertically by the strings.
That would pretty much protect them from theft or fire. I know the insurance company would screw me on the bows, because they just screwed me big time on a truck I wrecked 3 weeks ago

Technically, if you have what you consider to be "collectibles" you are supposed to have a special rider on your collection at extra cost.  I fear that if anything happens to my 80 bows (some real collectors item)...like theft or fire that just wipes me out...that the insurance company will say I have no coverage because it is a collection.  I have had good coverage on shotguns, rifles, and hand guns that were stolen from my home, but they were not per se a "collection"  They were firearms that I use.

Of my bow collection, I only use about three of them.

Extra insuance is a gamble.  I am betting my collection will be stolen or destroyed, and the insurance company is betting tha it won't.  Hopefully, the insurance company will win this bet.

The most important part of your hunting setup is the broadhead.  The rest is just the delivery system.

Gotta love Livin' in the great land!

My freinds say the robber has more to fear if there's a bow in my hand though, cant hit the broad side of a barn with a hand gun any more.
