I agree, but I'm sure Al would urge us to move on.  There was a need for decals when Al was alive and he filled the niche very very well.  The need for decals is still there and someone new will fill that niche eventually.  

Fred and others built them, Al helped us ressurect and preserve their beauty.  Most of them will outlive all of us as well.  It amazes me how a little wood and fiberglass tie so many people and even time periods to one another.  A tribute to archery's rich history, it's present and it's future.

I've done some reading since I first posted this one.  It looks like Al was a great man.  He touched a lot of folks in this community.  I wish I would have known him.

You could just get some wet transfer printer paper and print the decals.  It's cheap enough and if you put a good built up finish on it should be fine.

I found how to do the colored decals... but no one seems to be printing white!!

Anyone have an extra set of decals for a '56 Kodiak?  :(

I been working on new dry transfers as time allows but no luck as yet.One thing with the water slide decals you can buy a set of them from aigplastics.I never had to good of luck with the water slide type as the clear carrier its printed on will dry milky looking sometimes and they look real bad on black fiberglass like a Super K.But aig does own the water slide decals now.bowdoc

A friend of mine is a commercial artist. I remember years ago working with a dry transfer called "presstype." I bet that this is now available for computer printers. Presstype was self-adhesive and I used it to replace the letters and numbers on the dashboard controls of my XK-140 Jag. (In the 70s, you could buy one for $800! Baltimore was the port of entry for Jags, Healeys, Triumphs, MGs, and Rileys, and if I had any sense, I could have kept mine in the driveway and died rich.)

Your close Tony they are press ons or dry transfers,but they are printed onto a certin type clear plastic-iky paper whatever(I can't remember the name right now) Then once they are printed onto the plactic film you use another sticky like paper film to lift the lettering off the first page.Now you can transfer them and they will not look backwards.I do have the masters Al sent me.But the next problem is getting a printer that prints in white.I must be certin type white as well.I'am working on some now and with any luck maybe the next week or two we will have some.bowodc

I had almost gave up on this thread, and haven't checked it in days.  Thanks doc.  I will stay tuned.  I guess I need to empty my mail box.  I'm gonna attempt to save the originals, and will know how well it's gonna look after I spray the first coat.  I am about a week away from diving back into this re-furbish.  I'll keep you all tuned.
