ArcheryArchives.com whacked??
« on: November 25, 2008, 01:51:00 PM »
Does anybody know the person that runs this website? It looks like it has tons of info I am curious about, but anti-virus software lights up like a Christmastree when you get near it.

You need a real good Virus program to go on that site! It cost me $100.00 to get mine fixed after going on archery archives to get some info. You are right some great info there, but someone needs to fix it big time... BEWARE....    Mike

It's been that way for a few years as far as I know.  Treat it like a sailor would a red-light district... get what what you need quickly and bring your own protection, but don't be surprised if you come home with something.

I really wish we could get the info that's there somehow and safely transfer it to another forum. The Pearson stuff alone is outstanding, plus others like Herters, Eddings, Coe, Shakespeare, etc. It's a shame it's all for naught. It will be a bigger shame when it's gone and lost forever. CKruse

Here is the owner and technical information for archeryarchives.com.  It is public information readily available on the internet (for anyone who knows where to look for it).

The technical contact is a web page hosting site startlogic.com.  The administrative contact is most likely the domain name owner or the owner's representative.

I would think that the owner doesn't know that his site has been hacked, doesn't care, or is unable to do anything about it.

The site host company either unable to do anything about the hacked site because it isn't theirs-they just host the website, won't do anything about the hacked site, or doesn't know anything about site being hacked.  I wouldn't want a site I hosted to be infecting computers, but that is just me.  I sent the admin contact an email, but don't know if it will get through or if the address is current.  The domain name info hasn't been updated for a while.

It looks like the domain name expires on December 15th of this year.

I received an email back from the owner and he says that his hosting company removed the infection on the website.  Time will tell.  I hope it works out for him.

Google still shows it as being an unsafe site, but there are certain hoops that have to be jumped through to get the listing as a bad site removed.

I played that game for awhile, cost me every thing on my computer...everything. Started over from day one. I wont be going back. Shame too, I only got 5 or 6 years of the Pearson info printed off  :(

I go there on a spare PC with no hard drive installed, running Linux from CD Rom. I have very recently gone there on the same PC with Linux Ubuntu installed to the hard drive and had no issues at all.

That is a good idea Carter, I hadn't thought of that.  A solution for the geekier amongst us!
