Work of Primitive Bowyer Discovered

A piece of work from an ancient bowyer was recently discovered. The work is pretty crude, but it makes a pretty good stand for a bird mount.
Can you name the bowyer?
What type of wood was used?

Redwood creations by Bucky Beaver.
Am I close? I know I'm half right.

Looks like a forerunner of the Asbell grip, notice the narrow handle and the noticable palm swell.

Mr. Beaver sure picked a huge willow stave, huh?
I know he did most of the work, but when I sawed the top portion it fell just where he wanted it.
