'65 kodiak slugfest
« on: January 01, 2009, 06:26:00 PM »
#220336758834 Just ended at $806
Those guys were toe to toe going at it. Noticed a couple more showed up with huge buy it now prices. Too rich for me.

Mines got 2 filled holes in the riser, but the wood is gorgeous and it shoots well.

Yeah, they either got caught up in the competition, or one was a shill bidder.

Don't mean to sound ignorant here but what is "shill" bidding. Is that when you bid up the price on your own auction or someone you know does it?Just curious as I never heard that term used before.By the way,I thought $800.00 plus was alot for that bow too.Great condition and premium weight but I've never seen a '65 Kodiak go for anywhere near that much.Hmmm...It does smell fishy around here.

I think Shill bidding is when you have friends /other fleabayers you are buddies with. run up the price. If the auction winds up ending with one of the "shillers" winning, the seller does not hold him to it, he gives the guy good feedback, and relists the bow requesting that he does not get hit with the listing fee...visa versa.. i may be wrong

I believe "shilling" happens all the time. I, also think with money being tight, you'll see more of it. Be careful. I've bought some terrific bows from e-bay, but I can't believe what some are willing to pay to win.

Conspiracy theory...

Looks like a couple of buddies have some '65's they want to unload. I figure they will unload them to each other under false user names (with a lot of good feedback from their other kahutinizers) to try and create a market. Then cut them loose for the frenzy.

Split the fees for the false sales, (a minor cost when you sell a bow 3-4 times its worth), give each other some good feedback, and sit back and enjoy the show while they laugh with each other on the phone at how stupid people are being to pay such prices for them, and pat themselves on the back for what great businessmen they think they are, and trying to justify their actions with the term, "its just business". (Yes, I can actually visualize this)

Hey, I know its a stretch, but thats how I think sometimes.

I say do some research, look in the right places, and watch those serial numbers.

Funny thing, I have actually convinced myself that I know who they are....but I ain't sayin'.....'cause I know they are reading this.

Conspiracy theories.....I got a million of 'em.
