What Martin do I have?
« on: January 01, 2009, 10:33:00 PM »
Can anyone tell me what I have here? It says Martin 58" 42@28" and has the # 013. There isnt anything else on the bow. As you can see it was painted when I got it and the sticker is gone. I cleaned it up and am curious about the bow...Thanks Roy

Being 58" it might be an early Mamba, but bowdoc can probably tell you for sure.

I would also side with the early Mamba, but the blue glass is unusual, to me atleast. Never seen it on a Martin before.

Looks like what later became known as the Howatt Hunter or possibly Hi-Speed.

Thanks guys,The glass is green on the bow. I'm not sure why it turned out blue looking in the picture. Here is a couple more. It only 1 small scratch on the upper limb.

Not blind...The flash on our camera makes the glass look blue. Its for sure some color of green. The better half said its teal, but then I didnt know the difference between fuscia and pink...

Hi, I talked to Larry Hatfield about a Martin69" target bow and he said that Martin contracted bows to be built and Damon Howatt did alot of them, the Martin69" was built in the mid 60's by a school teacher who worked for Damon Howatt in the summer. Go to tradtalk site Larry posts there shoot him some pics, he is a wealth of info.
  Take care,  Brad

Bottom line is you have a Howatt Hunter or Hi-Speed with a Martin Archery sticker. A nice bow and a good shooting bow as well. You cannot mistake that Howatt riser design.

They all look the same.HH are 58" 62" HS were 54" & 58" I believe..they were all built by the same company and the risers on almost every Martin aka Howatt bow do look the same.Martin archery recurve bows have almost always been built by Damon Howatt Yakima Washington....Martin has owned Howatt for good many years........bd

The riser is different from the Diablo on flea8ay and mine has the wood on both sides of the tips. The color is the same as mine tho..
