Need help with age of this one....
« on: January 31, 2009, 02:37:00 PM »
I have a longbow made by the Woodcraft Equipment Company. The Model number is FJ53 and the draw weight is 30 pounds.

I've looked through a few of the older catalogs on line but cannot date this bow.

Anyone got an idea?

I saw ads for that company in some mid 60's catalogs.

Can Hanaka - There was a Woodcraft in Minneapolis MN making all wood bows back in the 1940s and perhaps before. I have a couple of their Osage bows, one has a Zwickey Hinge on it.

Woodcraft Equipment Company was located in Independence Missouri. I have a couple of their old wood bows with water transfer decals. Their bows also date back to the 1940s and perhaps before. They were a mass production company, and produced mostly lower end equipment. Don't really know any collectors who collect bows made by this company. Not sure how long they produced archery tackle under this name.

York Archery Company was also located in Independence, MO. Back in 1930s to 1950s York also mass produced lower end archery equipment, the type found in the old dime stores. Their earliest catalog that I have dates to the early 1930s. Because they were located in the same city, there may be some relationship between York and Woodcraft Equipment Company, but nothing comes to mind right now.

Wade, thanks for the information. The water decal on my bow does indicate it came fro Missouri. And, in those cases where I have been able to find a catalog, none has the same or similar "model number".
