Kodiak Super Mag 48" brace ????
« on: March 12, 2009, 09:10:00 AM »
Hi guys,
I received a few hours ago a beatifull Kodiak Super Mag 48" 50 # the serial number is : KX17659
Can I know wich is the correct brace height ? I ask you because the bowstring thst the bow came with ( I don't know if it's original ) even if without any twist give me a brace of 9 1/2 inches and more....Maybe it's normal with a so short bow but I'm not sure.
Wich would be the correct bowstring lenght and brace height ??
Thnk for your help.

That brace height is probably about right. If I remember they do have a big brace height. The string should be four inches shorter than your bow so you would need a 44 inch string. There are guys that know way more than me on here so if I am wrong help him out.

Hi Army,
My Super Mag shoots well at 8 1/2-9".  Some of the other guys might know if 9 1/2" is too much.

My Pearson Ambusher (same size bow) prefers about 8 1/2

I think 9-1/2" is about right, although some guys may lowere it in tuning to their style.  I lost my Bear CD so I can't check the published brace height.

Some one witht the CD or original catalog needs to verify it

Used to shoot a super mag when I was a kid. It does have a higher brace height. I think 9 1/2" sounds about right to me. But like noted you can do some fine tuning. And see what works best for you. Jim

The problem is the bow came with a endless string ( I don't know if it is the original ) and also with no twist the brace cannot be lowered. The bow is with FASCORE do you think it can manage dacron B50 only ?? Aniway how much strands I have to build with and how long ??
Many thanks

Just checked the catalog CD, for '70-'71.
It gives no specific brace height, but states total length of 45 inches tip to tip when strung.
Should be a good starting point.
I would think a Raineman flemish string would give you plenty of adjustment.

9 1/4 is the published starting point. They may shoot better even higher. The bow will throb a little if you shoot it at a lower brace height than 9 1/4. I've had a equalizer as well and it was like that too. I couldn't believe how much better my "76" super mag shot braced to 9 3/8 or so. it went from a strong throb to dead in the hand. And I'm pretty sure it is faster there too. I draw it to 29 or more.

Probably this is not the section where make the questions, but here, I know, there are many old bow user pretty well informed.
WHich arrow speed can I expect to get with this 50#  35 years old guy, using a 29" 2016 and 125 grains 2 blades broadhead ?
I'm thinking to bring my bow for a night hog hunting at not more then 10 yards distance...
