I have a question that only the experts here can give good advice.

It's been a long time since I shot a bow.  This past year my sons in High School did some archery in PE class and I am considering getting a bow for back yard use (yes I have a safe area to do it).

So I want a reasonable priced bow just to see if it's something we will enjoy a little or a lot.

Now for the rub...

I am left eye dominate and my kids are right eyed.  Is there a bow out there suitable for beginners that can be shot either hand?  Or am I forced to buy at least 2 of them?

Early Bear Kodiaks and Alaskans, some Pearson bows and perhaps a few others built in the 50s had double shelfs,i.e. they can be shot right or left handed.  Not many around though.  They turn up on the auction site occasionally.

Their are inexpensive all black fiberglass semi recurves commonly available for very little $$$, and they have a double shelf for right or left handed use.  It'd be a good place to start I think.  I'll see if I can find a link.

Sorry I’m not an expert but Bowhunters Superstore has some new bows that are in the $250 range. What kind of price range are you wanting to stay within? What draw weight are you wanting? I would stay with a low draw weight.

Someone will see this and provide you with better information that what I’m giving you but the more information you provide the better the response you will get.

You wrote that you are left eye dominate. Are you left hand dominate also? I read an article that said eye dominance is not that important if you are going to shoot instinctively. Does anyone know if this is true?

I am right handed and left eyed.

I was hoping to keep it under 150 bucks, but I want to spend enough to get a useful bow.

As far as a draw, yes, lighter will be better.  I will have a 12 year old shooting it so to start out, a light weight.  If the older kids have enough fun with it, they can buy their own, better bow.  If I have fun, I'll do the same!
