Value of a good 1969 Super Kodiak
« on: June 12, 2009, 12:24:00 PM »
What is a reasonable value for a really good 64 inch 1969 Super Kodiak. I know the 64 inch models are a lot harder to find. The bow is in very good shape. In fact it is nicer than any non-refinished ones I have ever seen. There are some bubbles in the finish on the end of one limb but almost no checking in the glass and none in the handle. 45 pounds at 28 inches. What would a fair dollar value be for this bow? What might some of you be willing to pay for a bow like this. I'll try to add some pictures tonight. I am not really looking to sell it. I am more interested in what it might be worth and how much it might grow in value over the years. Just looking for some opinions.
Thanks

The 64" may be harder to find because fewer were made.  Most folks, including me, prefer the 60" version, however, a 45# model would make a great 3-D bow.

I would go up to $450 for a nice one.

Lots of folks are looking for a 68-69 right now it seems.

p.s.  I just found out that the edit feature is turned back on.

I would agree. I have a 68 Super Kodiak, that is 60" 60#@28".  It was sold years ago for $75.00 to well known and respected gentlemen, along with another Bear TD. He thought the bow a bit worn, because of the checking in the finish on the back, so I bought it back. I would not sell it today for such a beggars sum. Original condition is very important, but I would buy a nicely refinished bow for $450. An original condition bow can cost more, a refinished bow can be enjoyed.

I just bought a 60" 53# 1969 Super Kodiak for $400 bucks. It has no holes, the limbs are true and the original finish is very good. I feel I got a great deal on such a fine piece of Bear Archery history. 1969 is also the year I was born and I've been looking for one to restore for years. Better snatch that 64" SK up, there getting harder to find every year..........IJ
