White Wing, Wing Archery info?
« on: July 13, 2009, 12:33:00 PM »
So, I came home with this Friday night, and the Wife's first comment was don't you have enough bows?
Silly woman!

I think this is a nice bow, but I would love to know more about it. From what I've learned it's post Bob Lee / Pre AMF. '68 -'70 ? Nice target bow.

Is it a collector? Should I keep it around for Friends to shoot? I know it's only worth what some one is willing to pay, but can anyone give me a ballpark value?

Thanks in advance for your input. I'd love to be able to tell the Wife "I told ya so".

Good looking bow. I am not sure on Wing. but I think they all started putting AMO standards on bows in 68 which would make yours older If Wing went with the Achery Manufacturers Organization.

Any bow can be a "collector". That bow is a pretty one and would like great in anyones collection. I should point out , however, that Wing Bows are generally regarded as much betther shooters when Bob Lee was running them. It is generally accepted in the hobby that when Bob Lee sold Wing - their quality dropped. If you look at your bow, see the "DIvision of HEad Ski" under the logo? That is after Bob's involvement. Bob sold to Head Ski and then they sold to AMF (the same people that make the bowling equipment).

The order may have went from Bob to AMF to HEad Ski - can't rememeber right now. Point being the "WING LOGO" without mention of HEad Ski or AMF are more coveted.

Thanks for your comments!
I've learned a little bit I can share, and maybe it will jog some memories for others.
Bob sold to Head around 1968, and they sold to AMF in 1970. Mr. Lee was on a 5 year contract to stay on as part of sale to Head.
My 1977 Archers Digest doesn't mention the White Wing, so I'm assuming that it was a discontinued model.
This is a great shooter, Wife and I both shot it over the weekend. Quiet and smooth! Just a little too long and light for me.
So my quest continues to find any more info on the "White Wing" model and if I can date it any more exactly than a three year time frame.

Hi Ron;

Bob sold Wing to Head Ski the latter part of 1967 so judging by the serial number suspect your White Wing was built in early to mid 1968.
