You did a really nice job of recreating the 1960 Cedar King arrows (page 17 of the 1960 Bear Catalog). Well, I'm just assuming they are your reproductions.  

Are you opting to use the 1960 Cedar Kings this year or do you have 1959 Bear reproductions that you are going to use?

Your 1960 Cedar Kings probably look better than any of the X-100 to X-350 color patterns that are shown on page 17 in the 1959 Catalog.

Trap - After looking at your arrows a few days ago, got to thinking of what 59 arrows to use this fall. Don't have any 59s that really appeal to me. So figured I make some 1959 reproductions.

Looked through the 1959 Bear Catalog and didn't see any color scheme that looked appealing.

So it made sense to borrow the color scheme from this set of older Bear X-200 arrows that have always been a favorite.

 

Applying the older X-200 yellow black colors, to the 1959 X-100 cresting pattern on page 17 of the 1959 Bear Catalog, resulted in the three possibilities below for a plan... The black cock feather is probably still the best...

Bear always used lots of different color schemes throughout the year, but the cresting patterns of the X-100, X-200 etc remained consistent throughout the year, sooooooo it's got to be OK to use another Bear Color Scheme other than what is shown in the 59 catalog... If my arrows turn out half as nice as yours, I'll be happy...

Thanks guys for the comments.  Refinnishing these great bows is really fun.  You know you're going to have a beauty when you're done if you just connect the dots.

Best of all, the bow shoots great.  I had it with me at Mojam last weekend and shot alot of 3D with it.  The 64 inch length is very smooth.  I won't hunt with it and therefore won't bother with a quiver bushing.

Thank You Wade, I'm in the process of making some replica X-200s from the 1959 Catalog.  Not real pleased with the crest on them.  I had some bleed through and my pinstripes are a little fat but they'll shoot just fine.  I have a half dozen original X-200s that I'll be using some this fall as well.  They are very nice to look at but they need to get wet and knocked around a little.

I built a dozen of the Cedar King replicas to match up with my Kodiak Deluxe which I fully intend to shoot a turkey with next Spring in Kansas.  I think it's time to put some old rumors to bed

I like the yellow crown on red dipped arrows.  

I tried to make some arrows similar to Fred's arrows shown in the picture of him overlooking the Salmon River in Idaho but my colors are too dark and my crest isnt very close.  Those arrows if you recall are dipped yellow with a red crown.  That will be a fun project for 2011 when we celebrate the 61 Kodiak's 50th Birthday.  Might even paint my 8 arrow spring arms red  

I like colorful arrows and have always enjoyed making them.  It appears that Fred liked a little color in his arrows also.

Trap - Yes, the photograph that Glenn took of Fred overlooking the Salmon River in Idaho is a good one.

One from that same trip is on the inside front cover of the 1962 Bear Catalog. The Micro-flite on page 10/11 of that catalog has possibilities, use Fred's yellow gray bar cock feather and Fred's yellow nock and the arrow might be an improvement on Fred's.

I've always liked the red crown arrows too. Especially on those occasions when they have the matching dark red blood their entire length.

Guys, Since we are talking about makeing replica Bear arrows.. Ever since I was about 13 I wanted to make a set of arrows like this that Fred has in this photo.. They don't look that hard to make but every time I make a set they come out wrong or half a$$ed...LOL

Trap, Very nice arrows indeed! The look fantastic. Lots of effort in the cresting I am sure. How did you get the yellow feather to match the natural turkey feathers so closely in shape? Chopper?

Are those repros you have made Wade, or the real thing?  '57/'58 Vintage?  or '59?

Trap - Those two boxes are the real thing 1959s. Your repros are very close except the color combinations. I actually prefer the 57/58 with lower profile feather and slightly different cresting pattern.
