HOWATT HI-SPEED QUESTION

I was just looking at my Howatt Hi-Speeds and noticed the serial #'s are only 229 apart.I'm far from a Howatt expert,but I believe they are both 1973 models with two different types of wood.I think the top one is Bubinga any idea what the bottom one would be?? It has alot more grain and alot darker color,almost like walnut.They are the same model bow but different in many ways.The 52# er has alot narrower grip,and the 55#er feels identical to a Super Diablo.Both are little rocket launchers.That's the nice thing about vintage bows,there's no 2 alike.Thanks

My Hi-Speed is like your darker one, same woods and accent. It has a four-digit serial, #4054. Pretty little things!

Outside chance that maybe the top one could be an 83 instead of 73? I cant recall the early 70s Hi-Speeds exactly but know I've seen darker earlier ones myself.

I've found that SOME earlier ones had smaller throats on the grip and know I have seen the "3" start of the serial number start over the next decade.

Only a guess but if I had them in my hand I would assume at first glance the top one is from quite a bit later than the bottom, but could easily be wrong...... also NOT a howatt expert yet have seen quite a few and owned a half dozen.

You should see the thin throat and FRAGILE, dinky, thin limb tips on my 1961 Hi-Speed.

again, just a guess going by what Ive seen.

If my memory serves, Howatt only did the curved riser stripe in the 73-75 time frame.  Based on the serial numbers those look to be from 1973.  I have 3 Hunters that look identical to these and they are all 73-74 versions.  We need Howattman to chime in on this one.
