Is the Alaskan considered a longbow or a recurve?

If you are talking about the late 1950's era Alaskan if my memory serves me it is listed in the catalog as a "semi-recurve"  

I have a few of these and mine are double shelf with black and orange glass with one with light colored.

Any pics?

That does sound familiar.  Semi-recurve.

And yes, it's the late 50's double shelf.  

The string does not really touch the belly of the bow like most recurves.

I really like the way mine shoot. Also like the fact that if someone comes over and wants to try shooting I always have a bow for them.

I also have a late 1960's Bear Cub which I think is classified as a semi-recurve too and that bow shoots great too!!
