Bear Archery Catalog CD
« on: September 25, 2009, 02:42:00 AM »
I just received the Bear Catalogs 1948-1978 CD in the mail from 3 Rivers. I have just recently been interested in collecting a few of Freds old bows and this CD was FANTASTIC for a neophyte collector like my self. I have to look at it again to decide on which bows I want! Lots of fun.
Anyway, I do currently have a Bear bow a friend of mine up here in Alaska gave me a few years back, its a Kodiak II and in very good shape. Looking at the CD it appears he only made this bow one year, is that correct?

Thanks for your help.

Yes,it's true,Bear only offered the Kodiak II recurve for one year,1954.The earlier ones had walnut risers and the later production run had maple risers. It was the first year Bear offered a full-working recurve.

My wife bought me that cd several years ago for Christmas.   It is a great reference tool when trying to pin down the years a certain bow was made.   I also like just looking at the various Bear catalogs throughout the years, and wishing I could obtain some of the bows and other equipment shown in them.   Well worth the money.

Thanks Johnny and I agree Jeff, its fun to peruse the catalog just to see the evolution of Freds bows... excellent stocking stuffer for Christmas to any archer.

I think the CD is great.  I wish I had all the originals, but that's not going to happen.

There are a few minor inconsistencies with the CD and the originals.  A few of them have been pointed out on this forum.

It's definitely a "must-have" for Bear Archery collectors.

Trap, for me to learn ... what would be an example of an inconsistency? Thanks.

One small inconsistency was pointed out and documented by Wade Phillips in the following thread about Bear Pandas.

Seems a few others have been pointed out through the years but I can't recall what they were.
