Bear draw length ?
« on: October 09, 2009, 11:31:00 PM »
Posted this on POWWOW, but figured i'd have better luck here.
Always wanted to have an older Bear to hunt with, but not sure if it would work with my 29 1/2 in draw.
I had a nice Kodiak hunter, but it stopped dead at 28in. Same thing with the Super Kodiak.
I really want to stay at 60in or under. Thanks
Robert

Hey Robert,

I draw about 29" and I thought the same thing was happening but as it turned out it was my back muscles that were stopping my draw. That said the 62" bows work much better for me. I can shoot my 60" Kodiak OK but the 62" Grizzly is simply in another class as far as "shootability" goes. Until I got into the old Bears my primary hunting bow was a Zipper, now it stays in the rack most of the time and one of the Bears goes to the woods. Mine are all 1958 model bows and they add a lot of pleasure to my time in the field.

I have a 30" draw and mostly shoot 62+" bows for the finger pinch issues.  I had a '69 KHunter that was pretty smooth out to 30", though it did pick up an extra # in the last inch.  The older 60" Kodiaks ('55-'62 anyway, not sure of the '63-'66) are nice out to 30" as well.

Anytime you pair a long riser, short limbs and a long draw you're going to run into stacking issues, so stay away from the shorter "target" models.
If you like a low grip, a 60" '57 Kodiak is one sweet bow.  If you like a med wrist grip it's hard to go wrong with a '59-62 Kodiak.

Personally, I like the 62" Grizzly models and the 64" Kodiaks.  If I had to pick a favorite.....  :D

What yall think about the K mag? I really do like a short bow. It's so stinkin thick where I hunt it just works better.
