Flexcraft semi recurve ?
« on: December 23, 2009, 09:31:00 AM »
She is 60" with a shape very much like a modern R/D hybrid. When strung, the string only contacts the limb at the nock pt, black glass back and belly. A faded decal/logo "Flexcraft" on the belly, and [ 60" 8-250-36  40# ] below the grip, zebra riser. The riser shape is like a BP Colt but more graceful.

If Flexcraft is the mfg, it is not listed on archeryarchivescom. Anybody recognise this one? I have pics but cant upload yet.  -thanks Ken

More mystery. Next to no info on Flex Craft or Flexcraft, looks like it wasn't too common.

On close examination I'm thinking the bow was never finished or used. Theres a rough edge on the side of the site window that was never final sanded. No marks from arrows or sign that a rest of any kind was ever attached. A finish was poorly applied to the handle that doesn't even cover completely. There are some dings to the edges of the limbs- but that could easy come from non-shooting related rough handling. Limbs straight, but on bracing obvious out of tiller (lower limb stiff). Also, I can get a fingernail to catch on the join between lams and riser here and there, and couple spots on the limbs, as if not enough glue used.

My theory: this was a factory seconds or reject that someone was gonna work on but never did. I'm guessing the semi-recurve limb shape like a BP Filly dates it maybe 1960-65 or so.

In any case, it is one of the most beautiful bows I have ever held. Time to turn this baby into a shooter. I plan to fill dings and gaps with super glue, radius the shelf, carefully sand the lwr limb belly into tiller, finish with Deft, and reinforce the tips with phenolic.
