Bear TD limbs

I was wondering about Bear TD limbs.

I have White limbs with red tips ( target limbs I assume)

I have 2 sets of black with red tips (hunting limbs)

I have also seen black with white tips.


Does tip color show age, FF compatibility ?

Is there a difference in the value based on tip color?

The oldest and most valuable are white tips and then red tips. These are Grayling made. Hunting limbs were usually black and target limbs were usually white. You say you have red limbs? I never have seen red limbs.

The Gainesville limbs were green tips and I believe some were made with blue tips. None of these were FF.

The new FF limbs are currently made and have black and white beefed up tips.

Red limbs got a pic ? painted or maybe they are for a 76er or a minuteman ? I do not recall any red limbs eather for the early mag or wood handle T/D's.Nope none of the early limbs were built for FF bd

I screwed up typing, I have white limbs with red tips and some black limbs  with red tips.

Oh yeah been there done that about 3 times this week myself too.
Bear limbs actually have several different colors black glass with white tips,black with red tips,,black with blue tips,black with green tips(later Gainsville limbs),and then you get into a few rare-ish tan colored fiberglass limbs with dark brown tip overlays.Then white fiberglass with brown tips and some white with black tips one or the others were called white knights.Then you get into factory camo painted limbs and man theres no telling what you got under the camo.Mine are factory camo #2's 55# but are actually a set of 55# number 2's White Knight target limbs painted camo at the factory bd

OK I have a set of gainesville limbs. The finish flaked off a section about 2 inches long and completely across the limb. Can't afford to replace them, there not of much collector value, thinking about snake skin backing, even found a skin that matches the gray of the riser fairly closely.

Early Grayling Limbs came in White Tip, Red Tip, and Blue Tip. I asked Frank Scott about that one day and his answer was we used what we could get.
Early Gainesville limbs were wood colored tips and the very bad Green Tip. The last limbs made in Gainesville were the the FF and were Black and White tip.

Zbone, all the limbs risers should interchange. I have had a set of new ones that wobbeled a bit in the sockets.

Mooseran:  I don't have a set of green tips, but what makes them not as good as the other?  I'm not yanking your chain, I really don't know.  Any opinions as to how the green stripe riser compares to those made most recently in the 2000s? I have a couple of the latter, and while they seem sturdy enough, the workmanship leaves a bit to be desired, IMO. The flocked finish on the hinges chips/flakes off quite easily.

The early Gainesville riser I always said would the next Collectible. Prices have been increasing over the last couple of years. As for the Gainesville made Green Tip limbs that I had (2 sets) were terrible performers. A few friends of mine felt the same way and dumped there's also. The limbs that Bear was making and have since stopped production are great limbs. I have a few sets. The older Grayling Limbs are still my favorite.

Hi,
I have two set of Grayling Limbs, one red tips and one white tips, all black limbs.
The Red tips is #3 and make a 64" 41# bow on my Riser B, the white tips is #1 and make a 60" 43#.
I love all two but prefer #1
Anyone know the right price for each...??

Orion,  the newer risers don't hold a candle to the early Gainsville green stripe risers.  Milan is right and the prices are probably going to go up some more.  I think he's also right about the green tip limbs... the one pair I shot seemed pretty sluggish.  I'm not a fan of the newer Bear limbs though.  If you took a rasp to the outer limb and removed material at the tip they'd be sweet shooters again.

Well,those green tips are maybe a little beefed up but I am trying them with a D97 skinny,padded loops,string and boys this is a whole new story.Those reinforcements in the limbs make the limbs sure with this kind of low stretch material,I hope.Anyway I am trying that string with a pair of beated set of limbs and the performances has improved a lot,still the bow is quiet but mach faster and it needs a much stiffer arrow,I can say 3 or 4 spines.

Jeremy (or anyone else): Is the difference in the workmanship and finish or design? If it's design, what are the differences?  I haven't seen any green stripe in A length.  Did they just make them in Bs?  Thanks for any info you can provide.

Yes,they were just made in B.I myself prefere the green stripe much more in finish woods and grip.They are cheaper too.

I am also VERY interested in the discussion regarding the new "Supreme" riser. I am within a couple of days buying a LH new one. I'll have 30 days to return it if I don't like it. I'd prefer to have an "A" handle and limbs that make it a 56" bow but unless one finds a used one, Bear doesn't do that one.

The Supreme riser (the one I had anyway) is a different animal than the standard risers Bear was offering.  Much better in the fit and finish department and since the limbs were made with the riser in hand they fit together very well.  Some of the newer limbs I've had my hands on were a bit sloppy in the socket, which in addition to being annoying caused the brass sleeve in the indexing hole to be off kilter = a squeeking noise.  Easily solved, but annoying.  I didn't have any of those problems with my Supreme and it was almost as nice as my '80 green stripe.  The limb tips on the Supreme were still blocky though.  It shot nice, but reducing them would make it shoot even nicer imo.
