2 Fred Bear Recurves
« on: January 24, 2010, 09:30:00 PM »
So I recently acquired two older Fred Bear recurves and I was curious as to more information about them. Time period made, hand made or mass production ( this is my bet). Anyhow the bows are a 60" Kodiak Hunter 50# and the other is a 52" Kodiak Magnum 50#. Both bows shoot great and no limb twisting from what I can tell(mind you I am a trad newbie). Also the Kodiak Hunter loos to have one tip that ahs been repaired...Any and all information will be greatly appreciated.

Pictures would help alot in narrowing down the year they were made. They are production bows.

Post the whole serial number. If the serial number begins with K, they are 1970s bows.

This isn't a gun forum where you need to disquise your serial numbers.  No one is registering bows with the government.

The kodiak Hunter is a 70 or 71. If it has a place to screw in a stabilizer, it's a 71. If not, she's a 70. My first trad bow was a 70 Kodiak Hunter. Love the contrast of the bubbinga with the shedua.

As for the Magnum - not as confident here - the guys will set me straight. Blue stripe tells me 75 or 76 right?

Verrrryyyy interesting!!!! =D The Hunter does have the stab. screw so that is a '71 and the Mag. is a '75...any idea on pricing? I will be looking to trade the Kodiak Magnum here soon for a long bow, shot one today and fell in love.

But the original poster said his Hunter was 60". The '67.5 was 58" that is why I left it off the list.
