Bear take down "grenn stripe" bow,,, whats this?
« on: April 29, 2010, 10:15:00 PM »
Ther was a add in the classified (I cant find it now) a guy had a take down bear that had been sighned by Fred Bear himself, said it was a green stipe bow, the picture showed a green stripe made into the riser.

I have never heard of one of these, can someone tell me more about these bows, I mean are they a rare bow ? and the signiture, since he signed it it must be worth considerably more.
It's a twang thang, some people git it, some people dont.

The Green Stripe takedown has picked up popularity recently. Believe it or not, it is a Gainesvile, FL bow and not a Grayling, MI bow. It was produced in the 80's. It is the only Gainesville bow in my collection.

Wonderfull shooter. Kinda pricey, but afterall it is a wooden Bear takedown.

As Bill has said it is becaming collectible, for its beauty, performances and because it is the bow that Fred loved, designed and reintroduced in the 80s.It is the only Florida bow I have in my collection me too.

Johnny Reb,
The '80's "Green Stripe" comes in various colors developed in the early '80's and the Brown Stripe developing in the mid to later '80's.  The top 2 bows were made in early 2000; the middle is a Brown Striper made in the mid to late '80's and the bottom two are two versions of the Green Stripers. These bows used to sell used for under $500 but lately have gone up to about $650 to $750.  Of coarse, one signed by Fred would go for a little more.  Great bows but I still want an original that was made in Grayling from '69 to '71.

NNIIIIICE, I'd never heard of one, wow, they do have a certain appeal dont they.

It would be nice to have a bear take down, sounds like I need to do some home work on my bears, I had in mind the only take downs were made in the 60's and 70's. ( shows ya what I know)

Here's the one I had up until a few days ago. Good buddy of mine wanted it though so it found a new home.

Were the 80s green stripes made in B length only?

Orion,
Yes, the Green Stripes were only made in B handle. I'm not sure when the A handles came back but I image it was somewhere around the late '90's or early 2000.  The top bow in my picture in my previous reply is an A handle made in 2001.  The A handles are not made anymore.  Bear is now just making the B handle in the Supreme Series.  Sad!

I would like to have a "green stripe" also. My reason is the grip. The ones I have handled seem to have a slimer grip. Not as slim as a Mag. but slimer than my "97". But it seems that now that I put one on my "A" list the demand is high.Guess That guy Murphy strikes agian.

Here are the before and after pictures of a Green Stripe I got a week and a half ago.

Like opening a gift at Christmas to see what you got.

In this case I was pretty happy!

The limbs were supposed to be 45# and 55# but the 55# turned out to be 60#
