Ever see a steel longbow
« on: August 02, 2010, 02:40:00 PM »

A friend of mine had this in his basement wood room. It's a steel longbow. He thinks it's made by Acme Shear. Does anyone know anything about it ? I have Googled it but not luck. I'll post a few more pics.

Handle is cork. It looks like the limbs were pressed.

I actually owned one of these back in the early eighties. I ended up giving it to a friend who is now deceased. Mine was strung with a thin cable and vibrated like a tuning fork when it was shot. It is my understanding that there were a few brands and versions of this concept in production at various times. Interesting find; I wish I still owned the one I gave away, lol.  GY

Your bow is a True-Temper. I have a few of them with the original True-Temper water transfer decal still intact on the limbs. The same company also produced fishing rods and hand tools.

I saw one of these T-T steel bows (not in bad shape actually) about a year ago.  A guy brought it in to a local bow shop.  We were all dying to see him shoot it, but all we got to do was handle it as the guy didn't have a string for it (I think he was hesitant to shoot it!).

Thanks for the info guys ... I do have a string that looks like it fits, I'll give it a few pulls and let you know what happens.

I have one too. Like Wade said it is True Temper. Mine has all the decals on it to, and an Ace Hardware store in a small town here still has the strings for sale. They are still $1.25
