string length for 56" Bear Grizzly ?
« on: August 10, 2010, 01:05:00 PM »
A friend of mine recently gave me a 1970 Bear Grizzly to sell for him. It has a string on it but it looks too short, it measures 51" and braces about 9 1/2 inches. The string looks original, light green serving on the ends and middle. No nock on the string and doesn't look like it was ever used. Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Ken

Since AMO standards were established in the late '60's, it has pretty much been common to use a sting on recurves 4" shorter than bow length and use strings on longbows that are 3" shorter.

Therefore, your string should be 52" and would put the brace to around 8"-8.5".

your welcome .... I looked through my pile of strings and found a 52" Dacron .. I have no idea why I had it but now it has a good use.

I shot that great bow a bit this afternoon, getting ready to take her hunting deer I think.
