Installing beaver "balls" how to?
« on: December 10, 2007, 02:12:00 PM »
Big brown truck dropped off my new bear supermag.  I also ordered beaver fur string silencers, and found them to be strips.  Not sure what I was expecting, really.

Anyway, no instructions on how to install them to get that puffed up ball look.  Is there a how to or tutorial here showing the process?  If not can someone please explain what I need to do?

I also want to put yarn on the ends of the string to help quiet limb slap.  I assume (hope) I can get a yarn that will work at Walmart as it's the only place around and I forgot to order it with the other stuff.

Thanks  :)

Hey, grats on your new bow its always a good feeling when the mailman knocks on your door. What you do with the beaver balls is stick one end of the white strip in the middle of the strands about an inch in so its sticking out the other side. Then just wrap it downward until you have about an inch left then tuck it into the strands then do the same with the top. They make your bow look cool and they silence well too. Happy shooting

Thanks for the quick reply   :)

What kind of wraps?  Overlaying, butted up against, or what?

How far down/up from where the string contacts the limbs in the groove should they be for maximum effectiveness?

Thanks again   :)

Congrats on the bow Rangeball!

As for the beaver balls, I overlay them a little and try to keep the wraps tight. To get a more "round" look, you should be able to push the ends together slightly to make a litte more compact after stringing the bow.

Range,
I tuck just a bit of the leather strip, maybe 1/4 inch or 1/2inch, between the strands of the string. Then tightly wrap the strip of leather down, so that each revolution of the wrap butts against the previous wrap. (leather-side down).  Whe you get to the end, tuck the last 1/4" or so back in between the strands. Now string your bow, pluck the string a few times, and you should have nice puff balls of beaver fur  :)

Check out Bow Hush here in the sponsors.  Great product and inexpensive.  Terry will get it to your door pretty quick.

To keep limbs quiet, I just put a strip of the heavy felt stuff you stick on the bottom of table legs. You can get big squares of it from Wally world. Comes with peel off backing.

The above directions seem right on, but if you're visually oriented, 3Rivers has posted a short instructional video on YouTube.  Just search "3Rivers", and a number of helpful explanations and product demo videos will come up.  Good luck.

If you wrap the string with yarn, be aware that many have posted accuracy consistency problems with that set-up. The stick on felt may be a better option for the limb slap. Finding the proper brace height is probably even more key, with the proper weight arrow. JMO good luck

Well my beavers balls arent so round. I may try to fix that. On the top of my string you can see the bow hush. I think i need to redo it and make it an inch or so shorter as it comes down the string to far. (i think)

I don't care how many times I see a thread title with Beaver Balls in it, it's still funny!  :smileystooges:    :knothead:
Just one more step please!
