question about Moments of Truth video
« on: December 10, 2007, 02:39:00 PM »
Hey guys, maybe someone here can shed some light on this video for me:

In the video, Moments of Truth (Bill Negley), there are a couple spots where the original movie must have been damaged or something, because there are some nasty "cuts" in the scenes.

The most obvious one happens at about 41 minutes into the movie.  The narrator starts to talk about hunting in Zambia and then all of a sudden the scene cuts to Bill fighting a tarpon.

I've found very little about this movie online.  I think the movie originally came out in 1981, and was re-released in the '90s on VHS tape, which is the one we can buy now.

I'm almost positive that the original movie must have contained a hunt for cape buffalo, and maybe even leopard.

There is a good chance that the original film was damaged in some way, and that footage is lost forever...if there really was more footage than  what is there now (has to be!!!).

Can anyone shed any light on this?  Thanks.

Brian, I agree. There is definately footage omitted and it looks to rough to have been edited. I think the film was originally produced for network TV and lots of stuff has been lost or damaged in those archives concerning other sports. I still watch this film periodically. Interesting guy, IMO.I'd like to see the missing film.                               Grant

Yeah, the box says,

"From the King Video Adventures 'Hunting Classics Series'".

It's just too bad that a part of Negley's legacy is lost.  I'd sure like to see the missing footage.  There is probably someone, somewhere, with the original footage taped off of TV...

I saw the movie the first time in 1979 with Bill setting right beside me. He was a guest speaker at my archery club. The film started out with him deep sea fishing and talked about the bet with his friend, went to the African part for most of the movie but faded back to the fishing toward the end. I did`nt notice any jumps in the film at the time,so some chsnges might have been made.
I did notice the crimped edge of his eye and the drawn skin at the corner of his mouth where the lion claw caught him when the lion jumped in the Land Rover though. He was a very personable and down to earth guy though. We talked fly fishing and bowhunting through the evening. He told me it was easier for him to take African game than Texas whitetails. He said they always gave him fits.

Draco, thanks for that little tidbit of history.  What a cool way to see the movie!  Glad to hear from you.
