Bear Takedown Limbs

I have a question. Are Bear Mag Takedown limbs interchangible with wooden Bear Takedown risers? I run across Mag takedown bows from time to time and wonder if I could mix and match the limb sets on a wood Bear riser. I have been looking to pick up a wood Bear takedown.

Depends on which Mag takedown you are talking about?  BD is right, if you are talking about the original Mag with the Latch System designed by Fred. If it is the patriot type with the push in limbs that are perfectly flat then NO. These are the one's that you see at a very low price

Cool, now I have new search. I have passed on some I should have bought. I see the Patriot more often but looking at the design thought they were different.
 I really,really,really want a "B" wood riser so I can match up some limbs. Dang Bear Archery's new catalog lit a fire in me.
I see the latch systems are prone to rust. Any problem with having the metal coated?

The latches aren't that prone to rust. The ones you are seeing that are rusted are 35 year old bows that have been neglected and not properly cared for. Plus if you are thinking about getting a new Bear TD the latches are textured and should be really durable. That being said I prefer the original smooth metal latches best.

Those white limbs look really good with copperhead skins on them, they are just so hard to find in a hunting weight.

Ronyag- the hardware is already coated. You shouldn't have any rust problems if you remember to wipe the bow down after hunting in wet weather. My two B risers are 41 and 39 years old respectively and I use them really hard; no rust. GY

A great way to pick up extra limbs for Wood risers is to keep an eye out for crappy looking mag risers.  Buy the bow for the limbs.

Another thing you need to know is that the limbs are interchangeable with right and left hand risers.  Left hand Mag risers bows usually go a bit cheaper than right hand models.  Again buy it for the limbs.   You can also salvage parts from a lefty riser to use on a righ hand model.

I called Bear today and asked about the new take-down. They said they will be an order only bow through distrubitors with a current 10 week backlog. I asked about wood options and they said no options other than limb and weight. I am tempted to just order one. Not crazy about the compass though. What do ya think B riser with #3 limbs at 50 lbs? Do they handle and shoot like a Super K [1972]?

B riser & #3 at 50# ? do they handle and shoot like a Super Kodiak 1972 ? well a B riser with #3 limbs is kind of more like a 64" Super Kodiak.They will not shoot the same mostly because they are different corewood and fiberglass.Fiberglass itself has also changed a bit over the years.So I'd say no it won't shoot like your SK but they should shoot a little different again better stronger corewood and fiberglass ? bd

Thanks BD! I may make the plunge and order one around tax return time if all goes well. I really like my 72 Super K and my Preditor [very much like a Super K with new materials]. Are the vintage take downs center cut? The new take downs are. I am thinking it would shoot like the Preditor which I shoot extreamly well. I amost bought some vintage limbs the other day but after researching a purchase of a vintage wood riser, decided not to. They are really hard to find. My luck , I will order new and then stumble onto a great vintage deal.

In my opinion, for the money you will spend you will be better off with a green stripe riser and older limbs, although #3 50# may be hard to find in older limbs.

I have a B mag riser and a newer Gainesville wood riser. The alignment screw in the limb pockets has a different diameter head on it, so to use the new limbs on the old riser (and vica-versa), I had to change out the screws.  Surely a person could find some screws at a hardware store if they didn't have another riser to interchange them with. (?)

My old limbs are #3's at 55#'s (rose tips).  I must be different than most, because I prefer the #1's on a B riser--like the shorter bow, and also highly prefer a longer riser and shorter limbs (as opposed to an A with #3's).
