You get lucky every now and then
« on: November 26, 2010, 06:44:00 PM »
My neighbor is an elderly woman whose husband just passed away a few months ago.  They were always great neighbors and every once in a while she'd have me do some heavy lifting or have my maintenance man go over and help her with some odd jobs.  Thanksgiving morning I was shooting my bow in the yard and she popped out of her garage and wanted me to come over.  She had been going through her husband's stuff and came across some arrows that he had in what she called "the late sixties or so".  He bought the arrows and then never followed through with purchasing a bow and they sat upstairs for ages.  She hoped that I could use them.

Basically they were a brand new set of Bear target arrows.  Port Orford Cedar painted blue, a shooting glove, arm guard and target face all in the original packaging. The last time they were opened was when he purchased them nearly 4 decades ago.

The box says they are spined for a 50-55 pound bow.

That is exactly the thing that is most noticable about this arrow as well. The cut of the fletching is truly remarkable.

Sure wish I could make a deal on the other five of these arrows, but I am dealing with a widow who is not anywhere nearly as reasonable as your neighbour. Her story and her price keeps changing and I have grown weary of the game.

I have decided that I am just going to be happy to have the one arrow, and she can go merrily about her business of trying to sell the rest of her husband's stuff by conventional methods. She wants the arrow back, but I consider it to be part of the generous 1000 dollars that I paid for the bows when she had no idea what they were. I probably could have bought them for half what I gave had I been a little less honest in my dealings with her.
