Earl Hoyt Sky Bow "Rogue"

Is it just me or is the best unknown R/D longbow ever made?  I have one 40# and would sure like to find a 50#er. Anyone else shoot these things?

Many also consider this bow not only the best R/D longbow, but also the FIRST.  The "genius" Earl Hoyt Jr. came up with this design around 1989-90, and many have tried to copy and improve it ever since.

I was looking for one a long time and finally found a 55# Rogue in 66" length.  

I'd love to find one of the Sky 3 piece takedown Rogues, but believe most folks who have them want to keep them.

I know Jim Belcher purchased Sky Archery a year or so ago and is making some of those great bows that Hoyt designed...like the Hawk and Eagle.  I believe the Rogue is also in the lineup.

Do you have any pictures of the 3 piece? is it the one with the metal riser?
I gave one to my nephew I think it was 62" 60#  he does not use it, we could probably do a 3 way trade

I heard 3 different names when I tried to identify this bow the Rogue, Rambo,and just plain old SKY Take Down

Jim has added the "Rogue" to his line up.
I have seen a couple of his other new SKY/ Hoyt bows and I don't mean to bash his bows but they are not even close to mine or the only other two I have shot. One of which is a take down Rogue and no it has a wood riser. All the Skybows I have shot have had what appears to be a crosscut laminate veneer.
If anyone runs across a TD Rogue or one piece 50-60# I would be very interested in acquiring it. I know where two are but have been trying to buy either one from the guy for 12 years now and he dose not even seem to show any weakness. LOL

i use to have one ,it was my first bow that i bought ,had it for years it was 63" long and 50lbs ,and would spit an arrow out ,wish i could find it again..awsome bow ..you dont see to many for sale

Earl Hoyt designed the Rogue back in the late 50’s early 60’s but after he built the protype  he shelved it because no one was interested in the longbow now that the working limb recurve’s were on the market. I shot the original and it was sweet

Interesting stuff...  ;)  

Having one of Earl's prototype Rogues in a collection would be special.  :cool:  

I have not shot one of his Trophy longbows, but read they were not as great as his Rogue.  :dunno:

I liked the Rogue much more then the Trophy longbow. Very stable and quick.

I have let a lot of people try my rogue and have not found one yet that did not try to get it away from me. I have tried every high end recurve I can get my hands on from Widows,Dale Dye, Brackenbury, you name it, none have been able to take my Rogue off #1 goto bow. I have an A&H ACS CX on the way but it has some very stiff competition.

I just ran across an interview with Ann, Earl's wife, who said he came up with the design for the reflex/deflex longbow way back in 1957.

Also, all this chatter about carbon in bows today most likely stems from some of the work that Earl did years ago.  Mr. Hoyt was one of the first to use carbon, but I also believed he recognized its limitations.

Wouldn't Earl and Fred have make a heck of tag team?

Well I had to try again, and the guy with the take down rogue still wont sell it. At this point I would trade my A&H straight across for one.

$325-350 seems to be common price for one in excellent condition in the 45-55# range.

Thanks for the pics, they look like they have a long riser with short limbs.
