Is a 55 lb, 50+ year old bow enough weight for Elk?

DD I believe your right. someday I will hunt elk with a 59K, but for now the one I have will not see the rockies. maybe a few whitetail hunts here in PA. Its a Sunday driver

I kinda look at "old "bows as "ageless"  meaning if they are in sound shape at present ... then the performance is acceptable. these bows killed elk and everything else 50 years ago . " Elk don't know how many feet a horse has....or how old that bow is"

I hate to admit it but when you guys call me DD it is likely my man bra size, which is why I am getting a full overhaul. Met with the nurse and dietician last week and have already got a good start. My goal is to get down to a C cup.

And btw we are getting more elk on the prairies every day. They must be coming in from the Saskatchewan side or be ones that were turned loose.

I just looked at a map of Alberta and discovered that you are not to far from Edmonton. I spent a lot of time there this winter on a project and hope our company is awarded another in that area. Nice country were you live, I have been working on some of the people from the job site to take me hunting but none of them are into traditional.

Oh dear, Mike, you are in for a treat.

If you scroll down to the state sites near the bottom of the forums you will find the Alberta Traditional Bowhunters Association page and see that there are a number of members who live much closer to Edmonton than I do, and who are a lot more experienced trad bow hunters. I am a lil in disfavour with that group right now, but my friends are still my friends.

If you have had occasion to hear of Jack Kempf and his bows you will be able to meet that old geezer any Friday night during the winter when we shoot at Trophy Book archery in Spruce Grove just west of Edmonton. Not a lot of people who can pick up a bow off a big rack and have about a 50 per cent chance that they are shooting one of their own bows. Jack has been known to grab the wrong bow that he has just finished reworking for someone. I took one of my 1960 Kodiaks with me to show off the first night I shot there and it turned out to be just kind of ordinary looking amongst all the custom Kempfs, Caribows, Bears Paws, and Adcocks. There were 27 shooters there that night.
