I have an old bowhunting book at the house and have no way to post them today but there is a pic of Fred dragging a white tail buck out of the woods and he's using a back quiver as kind of protection to drag the buck out so the horns don't hit his back.  In the same book, there is one of Fred with "i beleive" a mule deer, but he is kneeling down posing with the buck and it must be pre hunting boot times because as my daughter pointed out he is wearing a pair of Converse High tops... she was wondering why he was wearing skateboarding shoes.lol

I used to live about 10 miles from Grousehaven whick was the name of his camp, not an actual town. Even though it was a little out of my way I used to drive by it just for luck on my way to where I hunted just north of there. If it is still there it is not hard to find, south of Lupton MI of the west edge of The Rifle River Recreation area.

Yes, Grousehaven is now mostly state owned land available to anyone to hunt.
No hunter should feel guilty for killing a deer that doesnt meet someone else's expectations.

There is a local Michigan ad listing 320 acres of former Grousehaven property for sale. I wasn't sure now if I could post the link to the ad so I removed it from my post. Little out of my league but might be a chance for someone to own a piece of archery history.
