First a little background. About three years ago I lost an Uncle to cancer. I was extremly close to this man and I still think of him often. We had many things in common and he was a role model for me in many ways.
Fast forward to this past week. I was in MS for several days to attend the wedding of one of his sons. While talking to his other son I mentioned that I had really gotten into traditional achery and asked him to keep me in mind if he every ran across any "old bows" (I do this with everyone now). He told me thought he knew where an old bow might be. He asked me to meet him at his mother's house later that day.
Well when I arrived he walked outside holding two bows.........both of them belonged to his father, my Uncle. He told me I could have them. I was speachless. One of the bows I remember being around the house when I would visit during the summers as a child, that has been many years ago and I had forgotten all about it. Not positive about the other bow. I have posted some pics. The camo bow is a Super Kodiak (the one I remember) the other a Kodiak.
I have removed the camo from the Super and I believe it is a 1969. I cleaned the Kodiak and it is a 1965 if I understand the serial numbers.
The only slight bummer is that I shoot left handed. However my son will inherit two very nice bows.
I am going to try to restore the Super and I think I will be giving a name to each bow as a memorial to my uncle. I still tear up a little when I think about him and although I really don't remember him shooting or hunting with a bow I know he would be happy to see these bows getting used.
I just thought I would take a minute and share this Priceless Gift with my fellow Tradgangers.
So long to MY UNCLE MAC.
