Sears glass bow
« on: July 31, 2011, 08:43:00 PM »
I bought a bow at an estate auction yesterday. It is 62" 50# 28 ". The only markings on it are Sears 50#. I'm thinking these were made by Ben Pearson Archery. Anyone know for sure? I put a string on it this afternoon and couldn't believe how good it shot. I've got a Ben Pearson that looks about like it that my dad bought for me in 1961.

I'm not positive but I think Ben Pearson  and Indian made bows for Sears.  Maybe a expert will chime in on this.

I've got one that Sears sold and it's a Pearson and a laminated recurve. Mine says Special Hunter I believe. It's a 62" 52# with brown glass and as you said it's a real good shooter. They also sold Bears under the Sears name even Super Kodiaks, I belive they called it a Supreme.
I would've taken better care of myself,if I'd known I was gonna live this long!

Bear also made some bows for Sears.  Usually the same design as their main line of bows, with a lesser grade of wood, and a different nake.  The "Flicker" (sic) comes to mind.

Sears
GLASS POWERED
Flicker
by Bear

No "sic" necessary. The Bears that I have seen that were made for Sears were named for birds. There are two Flickers here, don't ask me why. Both are 45#@28".

Flicker and raven were two that come to mind. Both were solid shooters.. Great find.

Usually the bows made by bear for the department stores did have a bear marking on them. The bows made by pearson and indian just had the department store logo or name on them. Sounds like yours is a pearson or indian bow.

I've owned a couple Sears "Hawk" made by Bear, they looked identical to the form the Black Panther Hunter they made for Kmart I believe? Similar to the K-mag @ 52"amo.
