50's kodiak, need tip overlays.

So I got my grubby hands on a rough looking 64" kodiak.  I'm not sure of the year, but it doesn't have a medallion.  I'm guessing 57 or 58.  

Its an exciting project, since I got it for all of five bucks at a flea market, but I need to fix the tips.  

I remember a post somewhere, about a member who sells the tip overlays, if anyone knows who or what I'm talking about, please chime in.

Well that didn't work, but the photos are there.

The limbs are in good shape, no glass slivers, no cracks, no delaminations, just the ugly tip (that's a scratch through the lower logo, not a crack).  The riser has a little bit of separation, but its only in the non working area.  I plan to fill it with superglue.

Five bucks well spent. You now have a nice challenging project to keep you busy. Post pics as you go along. It should be interesting.

I've spent a good while dripping glue into the separation.  Its drinking it up well, so I'm confident its sealing/filling it effectively.  

I'm getting excited about finishing this bow, I'm already looking forward to shooting it, I'm confident it'll work out.  

Any leads on the guy who sells overlays?  I may manufacture my own out of bocote (brown) and maple or ash (white).

Sal, you need more than just tip overlays. That one tip is busted off. You'll need to shorten the other limb tip to match. I would put underlays as well as overlays on it.

I'm doing one just like it for a member now. I've had to narrow the limbs slightly to get the tiller and the weight right again.

Also, just a caution. The riser looks to have been in the elements without protection and could be very brittle. With that baby being 57# and heavier being shortened, I'd be very careful stringing it the first time.

The tip looks kinda chewed up, but its solid up to the string grooves and a little past it.  There is enough left that I think I can fix it without shortening it, should that fail, shortening is an option.  

I'm keeping an eye on the wood, its sucking up glue well, so hopefully that'll stabilize it.  I'm also hopeful because the design of this bow has glass though both sides of the handle.  Its almost a bulletproof design.

I'm guessing someone closed a car door on the tip and they left it out and exposed for some time.  The glue lines on the limbs are solid though, no water damage or penetration is visible.

Sal, I have overlay material. Black and white phenolic. Where the core and the glass of the broken tip are missing on the sides, you will have a heck of a time filling that in and making it strong enough as well as making it look right.

You are correct Kenny, I forgot to acknowledge your suggestion of putting overlays AND underlays, which is what I intend to do with it.  It'll probably look funky, but I'll do my best to match them, with the main emphasis being on making it strong enough for a bowstring.  

I just want this baby to shoot again, even if it looks odd.
